Close up of a Paragliding Tandem

Anyone of any age and of any experience can go flying with us! Minors simply need a parent or guardian to do the paperwork for them to allow them to fly. If you want to fly in a paraglider with us, read on!

Our Instructional Tandem Flight program is available seven days a week, 9am to 5pm, as long as winds allow. This means we have Tandem Instructors here on a daily basis and if the winds are suitable then we can fly tandems! Peak flying hours at TPG typically takes place in the early afternoons between 12 and 3pm. All you need to do to make it happen, is call us the morning you want to fly, just to check if wind conditions are suitable, and then it is simply first come first serve!

What to expect: An instructional Tandem experience at Torrey Pines consists of 5-10 minutes of paperwork, temporary membership with the United States Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association, a brief ground instructional period, and finally a 20-25 minute flight over the beautiful Torrey Pines coastal cliffs. Enjoy bird's eye views of the emerald Torrey Pines Golf Course, the stunning La Jollan mansions, and miles of dramatic coast line. We land where we take off. Very rarely, however, due to variable winds, we may have to land on the beach for safety reasons.

Reservations?: All flights are wind dependant. Therefore, we do not accept reservations. We do recommend that you call for wind conditions around 10:30am prior to coming to the Gliderport . The Gliderport can be reached at (858) 452-9858.

What if there is a wait?: If there is a wait, it is usually no longer than about 45minutes to an hour. While waiting for the wind or your flight, please enjoy a sandwich, soup, salad, or a snack at our fully staffed and serviced Cliffhanger Cafe.

What to bring?: We suggest you bring a jacket and sneakers. Gloves and a heavier coat are encouraged during the colder winter months.

Cameras?:  Due to liability/insurance concerns, cameras are not permitted to be carried on our flights by our passengers.

Paragliding is becoming increasingly popular in the gliding world. Many of our tandem flights at TPG are Paragliding tandems.

Basic facts about Paragliding:

  1. Uses a soft wing that when inflated has an elliptical shape.
  2. Can fly in lighter wind conditions than Hang Gliding.
  3. Pilot and passenger are in a comfortable seated position.
  4. No weight limit. (Depends on the winds)

One Hang Gliding Tandem Flight: $200.00

(Pay an extra $40.00 for video of your flight, or $15.00 for pictures, or $50.00 for both!)

We fly Hang Gliding tandems at Torrey whenever the winds allow. They are heavier than paragliders, so we don not fly them as often.

Basic facts about Hang Gliding:

  1. Triangular wing structure with an internal frame.
  2. Requires stronger winds to fly. (We experience our best winds in the Spring.)
  3. Weight limit for passengers of about 175lbs.
  4. Pilot and passenger are in a "lying down" position.
