 Torrey Pines Gliderport ("TPG") located at 2800 Torrey Pines Scenic Dr, La Jolla CA, 92037 offers quality year round Paragliding instruction.

 We have had three instructors in the past five years working at TPG who have earned United States Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association (USHPA) Instructor of the Year awards! We are fully equipped and prepared to instruct you into becoming a safe and fully qualified pilot.

Our school embraces an open enrollment policy. Simply come down whenever we are open (9-5) every day of the week), do the paperwork and payment, and then you can get started on your training that very same day!

Paragliding School Summary

 

Torrey Pines Gliderport is a school which certifies paraglider pilots. Most students who sign up at Torrey, sign up for the P1/P2 package. They sign up for this duo package, because they get a discount, and really, the P2 contains the bulk of the learning program. Once a P2 certified pilot, a pilot can fly at about 75% of the soaring locations in the U.S.A.
 
The P1/P2 package is $2070.00. This tuition includes, usage of Torrey gear for the program, a brand new icom radio, a radio harness, a logbook, and the school training manual. If done in consecutive days, the P1/P2 package can be finished in about 14-16 flyable days (Flyable meaning the wind conditions are suitable for student training).
 
Someone interested in paragliding certification is encouraged to first sign up for a paragliding tandem flight ($150.00 credit, or $140.00 in cash).
This allows them to get in the air with an instructor, who can, if conditions allow, hand over controls to the passenger and allow them to get a taste of controlling a paraglider in the air. This way, the passenger can find out if the sport of paragliding is for them! At Torrey, we apply $70.00 of your tandem flight cost to your P1/P2 tuition making it an even $2000.00.
 
Torrey Pines Gliderport is a more advanced soaring site than others. As such, we are a P3 rated site. So if your overall goal is certifcation to fly Torrey solo as much as you want, then you would need to be trained all the way through to your P3. The P3 tuition for a student who has earned his P1 and P2 at Torrey is $695.00. Students must have purchased their own gear to enroll in the P3 program. Torrey is the major importer for almost every brand of paraglider you could want, and we always work our best to give our students the best deal in the market. Students training at Torrey are required to buy their gear from us, which works out since we do our best to get them gear that is a right fit, safety, and cost wise.
 
Torrey is open every day for training. Students are encouraged to spend as much of the day they can at Torrey to receive the best training possible. Students are responsible for updating their logbook, and talking over their syllabus with the instructors daily. Thus, they know where they are at in the program, and where they need to go! Torrey even takes students to trips to local mountain sites for another look at the other half of the paragliding sport.
